ICYMI: CAS News and Highlights

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders recently announced a new endowed chair thanks to the Edward E. and Helen T. Bartlett Foundation.  

 

Dr. Sayuri Hayakawa, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, recently published a novel-study in the journal Nature Communications Psychology titled, “Sound-meaning associations allow listeners to infer the meaning of foreign language words.”

 

The National Institutes of Health awarded OSU researchers a $10.7 million grant to fund the Oklahoma Center for Microbiome Research, which will add a critical mass of new investigators and create new cutting-edge research infrastructure for microbiome scientists across the state. 

 

An exhibition of works by Kansas-born Cherokee artist Hattie Lee Mendoza opened at the Gardiner Gallery of Art in the Bartlett Center on Oklahoma State University’s Stillwater campus in January and will be on view until this Friday, Feb. 16. A closing reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, with an artist talk at 6 p.m.

Faculty Spotlight: Jason Estala

Jason Estala is an assistant professor of costume design who joined the theatre department in 2020. 

 

One aspect of his research involves millinery, the art of hat making. As a theatre costume designer, hats are a necessity in show design and theatrical storytelling.
