Several CAS faculty, staff and administrators were recognized for their contributions during the 2023 University Awards Convocation held Monday, Dec. 4, on OSU’s Stillwater campus. In total, the college received 19 awards.

CAS, CEAT and Ag faculty awarded $460K NSF grant for drone research

An interdisciplinary team of OSU faculty were recently awarded a $460,000 grant from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation Program to acquire the Advanced Low-altitude Earth Observing System, an unoccupied aircraft system-based instrument.

History professor publishes book on diseases in film
|
Department of History professor Dr. Merle Eisenberg has published a new book titled “Diseased Cinema: Plagues, Pandemics and Zombies in American Movies” supported by a book subvention grant from CAS.
The book demonstrates how movies have shaped our expectations of disease outbreaks over the past century, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Art department professor takes home prize for movie poster design
|
Nick Mendoza recently received a silver award from the United States International Poster Biennial in the "Cultural" category.
Mendoza’s poster was one of 285 pieces chosen for the biennial show from among 7,380 entries submitted by professional and student artists, graphic designers, photographers and visual communicators from 75 countries.

Languages and Literatures mourns passing of former head Dr. Gethner
|
The Department of Languages and Literatures lost a beloved member of its faculty with the passing of recently retired French professor and former department head Dr. Perry Gethner on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
Gethner retired this year as Regents Professor of Foreign Language after 39 years at OSU.

In just three and a half years at OSU, David Steichen has accomplished quite a bit. All of his accolades have led him to be named the CAS Orange Gown Graduate for fall 2023 undergraduate commencement. David has blended his passions for medicine and sustainability to leave a legacy of research, a new club and a garden that gives back.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Tony Thornton
|
Dr. Tony Thornton is the director of choral and vocal studies in the Greenwood School of Music.
He has collaborated with over 400 mixed, treble and tenor/bass choruses across public and private schools, colleges, churches, community ensembles and professional organizations in 25 states, Japan and throughout Europe.
