L.C. GordonThe OSU Alumni Association is honored to announce L.C. Gordon, '61 has been named the grand marshal of Homecoming 2013: 'Branding a Brighter Orange.'

Gordon enrolled at Oklahoma A&M in 1957. While at OSU, he became the university’s first African-American basketball player under Coach Henry Iba. Gordon graduated in 1961 with a bachelor of science degree in secondary education. He went on to earn a master’s degree in administration and supervision from the University of Memphis and a master’s degree in physical education from Texas Southern University.

"L.C. Gordon is a great example of the strength our students and alumni possess to overcome great odds," says Chris Batchelder, Alumni Association Executive Vice President. "As the first African American basketball player at OSU, he paved the way for many talented young men to demonstrate their talent on the historic court inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

"His work as a coach both on and off the court has made a tremendous impact on the students he's worked with, and we are proud to have him represent our alma mater as grand marshal of OSU Homecoming 2013."

As grand marshal, Gordon will participate in numerous activities during the week of Homecoming including leading the Sea of Orange Parade and awarding Homecoming trophies at the TCU vs. OSU football game on Oct. 19.

Gordon served as a head coach at both the high school and collegiate levels for most of his career. He led many of his teams to championships and was named coach of the year several times. Throughout his career, he was a guide and a mentor to many young men he coached enabling them to become productive citizens today.

In his community, Gordon is responsible for starting the first athletic program at his church. He also assisted in organizing the Memphis OSU Alumni Chapter. He continues to stay connected to OSU as a life member of the OSU Alumni Association and has also participated in the OSU Black Alumni Society Scholarship Weekend in 2012.
