Leadership Changes atOSU Center for Health Sciences

Dr. Johnny Stephens, Pharm.D., has been named interim president of OSU Center for Health Sciences. Stephens served as vice president for research, chief operating officer and most recently the senior vice president. He has been a valued member of the OSUCHS leadership team for seven years. Dr. Dennis Blankenship, OSUCOM '01, has been named interim dean of the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been active in the College's administration as senior associate dean and previously served as chair of emergency medicine. Dr. Natasha Bray, OSUCOM '03, was recently named interim dean of the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine at Cherokee Nation. She previously served as associate dean for academic affairs.

Roy Ward, D.O., M.H.A. President Dr. Ward graduated from OSUCOM in 2011. He is residency trained in Family Medicine at OSU Medicine. Dr. Ward currently practices at the W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he is a staff physician in the emergency department. He also serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Cherokee Nation Medical Staff, Site Director for the US Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant Clinical Training Course at Cherokee Nation, faculty for the Cherokee Nation Family Medicine Residency, and as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in Rural Health and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine for OSU-CHS.

Blake Middleton, D.O. Past President Dr. Middleton graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2013. He is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine at Texas A&M University in College Station and residency trained in Family Medicine at OSU Medicine. Dr. Middleton currently practices at McBride Orthopedic Hospital in Oklahoma City and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at OU Health Sciences Center.

Abby Housman, D.O. Vice President Dr. Housman is a 2010 graduate of OSUCOM. She is residency trained in Family Medicine at OSU Medicine. Dr. Housman currently practices at Five Oaks Medical Group in Chickasha.

Amanda Carey, D.O. Treasurer Dr. Carey graduated from OSUCOM in 2013. She currently practices at OSU Family Medicine at Eastgate and Health Care Center. She is the Associate Program Director for the OMECO THC Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Carey and her husband are both graduates of our medical school.

Greg Gray, D.O., FACEP Secretary Dr. Gray graduated from OSU in 1985 with a bachelor's in Biochemistry. He worked for the athletic department as a student trainer and EMT from 1980-1984, then OSU Fire and Safety (now Environmental Health) in 1984-1985 as an EMT. Gray graduated from OSUCOM in '89 and completed his rotational-internship at Hillcrest in OKC. He later completed his ER residency at OSU Medical Center in 1993. He has been a staff member with St. Francis System since 1992 in the ER. Presently, he works at St. Francis Hospital South and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Education at OSU Medicine.

Darin Tyson, M.S. Graduate Representative Tyson graduated from OSU Center for Health Sciences in 2018 with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration. He currently resides in Rochester, New York, and is a Lead Program Manager at the University of Rochester Medical Center where he oversees a team of project managers that are focused on lowering the cost of healthcare delivery to the system while increasing satisfaction to the providers and patient.

Mackenzee Hester Student Representative OSUCOM at Cherokee Nation Hester is from Washington, Oklahoma and is part of the inaugural class at OSUCOM at Cherokee Nation. She is Choctaw and was excited to be able to attend a medical school that had a partnership with Cherokee Nation.

She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2020 with a bachelor's of science in Biology. Hester is keeping an open mind regarding what specialty she wants to pursue, but is most interested in surgery. Her favorite thing about OSU is the family atmosphere. Even when she was a prospective student, she felt invited and welcomed to be a part of the Cowboy family. She has a passion for continuing to foster that same type of inviting and collaborative environment as an Ambassador.

Stephanie Myers Student Representative OSUCHS Graduate Programs Myers is currently a PH.D. Biomedical Sciences Graduate Student at OSU Center for Health Sciences. Her research focuses on neuroinflammation in brain disorders as well as the pharmacological modulation of neuroinflammatory signaling.

Kelsey Snider Student Representative OSUCOM in Tulsa A native of Edmond, Oklahoma, Snider is a second year medical student at OSUCOM. She has a Bachelor's degree in Music from Oklahoma State University as well as a Master's degree in Music from the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music. She hopes to pursue a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Snider is a current fellow with the Tulsa Schweitzer Fellowship.

Virtual Addiction Medicine Conference

The National Center for Wellness & Recovery will present the 2021 Addiction Medicine Conference virtually, in a work at your own pace format, September 16-30, 2021. The flexible format allows participants to work at their own pace and earn up to 23.5 CME credits.

A.T. Still Award of Excellence Natasha Bray, DO, MSEd, FACOI, FACP, OSUCOM '03 Dr. Bray was recently recognized for her leadership and service as a recipient of the A.T. Still Award of Excellence by OOA. "She has met every challenge encountered with grace and perseverance. Her leadership creates an environment of support and transparency in which to learn and work" read one nomination. Dr. Bray recently was named interim Dean of OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine at Cherokee Nation.

Rookie Physicians of the Year Matthew Else, DO OSUCOM '16 Dr. Else is a family medicine physician in Bixby, OK. After completing a family medicine internship and residency at the Oklahoma State University for Center Sciences in 2019, he joined the Utica Park Clinic. His interest in medicine stemmed from a personal experience as a child. Following a traumatic accident at a young age, which required him to rely on a team of doctors to get him back to his normal life.

Award of Appreciation Dr. Robin Dyer, DO OSUCOM '92 Dr. Dyer is board certified neuromusculoskeletal medicine as well as family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr. Dyer is dedicated to training and mentoring future osteopathic physicians. She serves as a professor and chair of the OMM department of OSUCOM as well as associate dean for the office of academic affairs. Colleagues and students alike admire Dr. Dyer's unwavering passion and devotion with one describing her as authentic, humble and resilient.

Congratulations to OSUCOM alum Capt. Nicholas Martin, DO, '18 on his recent residency graduation from St. Louis University's Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Martin will return to Oklahoma and serve at the Altus Air Force Base.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Hardesty Center for Clinical Research and Neuroscience OSU Center for Health Sciences and the National Center for Wellness & Recovery held a ribbon cutting ceremony July 14 for the Hardesty Center for Clinical Research and Neuroscience in Tulsa. The 49,000 square foot research complex houses outpatient diagnostic imaging services, clinical research initiatives and a clinical trials unit, along with dedicated faculty and student office space that support biomedical, clinical and population health research initiatives. The center's creation is made possible through a gift by the Hardesty Family Foundation and underpins their ongoing commitment to impactful solutions that aid Tulsans for generations.
