Pokes PodCAS: Exploring Greenwood

Dr. Brandy Thomas Wells, a professor in OSU’s Department of History, is turning her students into history detectives through research projects centered on Tulsa’s Greenwood District. Pokes PodCAS: Step in Time

In this episode of the Pokes PodCAS, we talk with 2022-23 Cowboy Marching Band director Dr. Phil Vallejo and two members of the band, Alleyn Campbell and Rosalyn Hodge, who also happen to be College of Arts and Sciences students. Phil, Alleyn and Rosalyn give us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it’s like to be part of the Cowboy Marching Band, from auditions to rehearsals to taking the field.

Faculty prepare Payne County inmates for the High School Equivalency Test 

The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) program at the Payne County Jail, which began in August 2022, brings CAS faculty into the facility to teach courses to female inmates in language arts, math, science and social studies. These courses prepare students to take the HiSET and ultimately earn the equivalent of a high school diploma — an opportunity never before offered at the facility.

Integrative biology faculty publishes study on parasites and communication

Drs. Michael Reichert, Matt Bolek and Elizabeth McCullagh collaborated to write the article "Parasite effects on receivers in animal communication: Hidden impacts on behavior, ecology and evolution,” which was included in the July 18 edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS).

Ogle joins School of Media and Strategic Communications faculty

Former KWTV anchor and Oklahoma State University alumnus Kelly Ogle will be joining the School of Media and Strategic Communications faculty this fall.

 

Ogle, a 1985 graduate of the program, will be preparing future journalists to enter the field of broadcast journalism.

Dr. Lucia Unrau named new director of Greenwood School of Music

Oklahoma State University’s Greenwood School of Music concluded a national search for its new director with the recent appointment of Dr. Lucia Unrau.

 

Unrau brings decades of experience to OSU as a successful administrator and well-respected pianist pedagogue.
