If you're reading this on Wednesday, then we hope to see you tomorrow at CAS Convocation 2022. This annual event to honor outstanding CAS employees will be Thursday, Nov. 17 from 3-5 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. And yes, we'll have refreshments!

Greenwood School of Music to welcome Warner Music executive for public Q&A

On Friday, Nov. 18, the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music will welcome home OSU alumnus and Warner Music Nashville Executive Vice President of A&R Scott Hendricks to its Recital Hall. Hendricks plans to pull back the curtain on the country music business and participate in a Q&A session with music industry students and the public.

A new study by OSU's Dr. Sarah Kucker — an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology — and the University of Miami’s Dr. Lynn Perry examined how socially taboo words change how we say new words.

OSU psychology professor advances novel theory about moral judgment

Dr. Daniel Sznycer, an assistant professor in Oklahoma State University’s Department of Psychology, recently published research on moral judgment.

 

The study aimed to understand how people solve sacrificial dilemmas. However, one cannot satisfy one moral value without violating another moral value, at least to some extent.

ICYMI: CAS News Highlights

Six CAS students were recently named Niblack Research Scholars, a program made possible by OSU alumnus Dr. John Niblack.

 

The OSU Alumni Association named 15 students from the College of Arts and Sciences among their 2022-23 Seniors of Significance. The Alumni Association honored all 50 Seniors of Significance at a public reception on Nov. 9 at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center (pictured).

 

OSU's Greenwood School of Music was named one of Billboard's top music business schools. Billboard highlighted the school's new facilities, the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts, and the partnership with the New York Philharmonic announced in March.

 

The National Television Academy announced the winners of its News and Documentary Emmy Awards, and OSU alumna Maddy Cunningham — who graduated with degrees in multimedia journalism and theatre in 2016 — was among the winners!

 

Faculty Appreciation Day!

Happy Belated Faculty Appreciation Day! During CAS Week a few weeks ago — on behalf of our student body — CAS Student Council created gift bags, collected thank you notes and put together this video to celebrate your contributions to our higher education. Thank you for all you do!
 

Faculty Spotlight: Avi Mitra, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

Dr. Avi Mitra is an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at OSU.

 

Dr. Mitra formed a team of graduate and undergraduate students who study unknown mechanisms of Mtb iron acquisition and is discovering new ways to target and block these systems as a way of treatment. He serves on committees at OSU reviewing biosafety protocols for other research labs and as a recording secretary for the Oklahoma Academy of Sciences.
