First, our CAS Reunion and Homecoming Party is this Friday, October 21 from 5-6 p.m. at the Social Sciences and Humanities Building. Check out the flyer below for more details.

Faculty works showcased at Biennial Faculty Exhibition at the Gardiner

The Biennial Faculty Exhibition for the 2022-2023 academic year took place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 16 at the Gardiner Gallery of Art. It featured recent works from full-time, adjunct and emeriti faculty members within OSU’s Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History. The exhibition occurs every two years to ensure that students are able to see faculty work at least once throughout their time at OSU.

OSU sociology professor receives $2.7M NIH grant to study cognitive aging

Dr. Adam Roth, an assistant professor in OSU’s Department of Sociology, was recently awarded a $2.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund his research on rural-urban disparities in cognitive aging over the next five years. Roth and his two collaborators from Indiana University will extend their current research that focuses on the social determinants of cognitive aging.

ICYMI: CAS News Highlights

Dr. Daniel Conroy-Beam — an evolutionary psychologist and University of California, Santa Barbara professor — presented research at OSU's OCEAN Speaker Series. Conroy-Beam discussed psychology research into using computer models to understand how people find mates.

 

Pioneering computer science alumnus Miguel Pineda Soto graduated in July as one of the first to earn an online computer science degree from OSU, but he battled bankruptcy and more on the road to graduation. Read more about his journey here.

 

Sports media sophomore Tatum Shelton (pictured) was crowned Miss OSU 2022 earlier this month. Congrats, Tatum!

Faculty Spotlight: Erica Townsend-Bell

Dr. Erica Townsend-Bell is an associate professor of Political Science and director of the Center for Africana Studies.

 

I research the politics of intersectionality, which investigates the way in which systems of power interlock to produce patterns of inequity and oppression for minoritized populations throughout the world. My research focuses on the ways in which race, class and gender and other markers of difference intersect to impact representation, participation, and the enjoyment of rights.
