Registration is open for the Reading Readiness Camp, hosted by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The Reading Readiness Camp is intended to foster a love for reading among young school-going children through hands-on, fun learning activities. Campers will be engaged in small group instruction that focuses on developing their confidence for reading in a supportive environment. OSU earns Bee Campus USA certification

OSU has received official certification as an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program designed to utilize campus landscape resources for the benefit of pollinators.

 

OSU is the first university in the state to receive this designation and has also been recognized as a “Tree Campus” by the Arbor Day Foundation for the past 11 years. Post-doctoral fellow Emily Geest and graduate student Teri Cocke, both in the Department of Integrative Biology, spearheaded the university’s efforts to apply and receive the Bee Campus USA designation.

OSU Theatre putting on production of 'The Wedding Singer'

The OSU Department of Theatre is producing "The Wedding Singer." The musical begins at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in the Vivia Nail Locke Theatre in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.

 

“It's big, the cast is big, the costumes are big, the lights are going to be big," said Devon Hunt, assistant professor of musical theatre and director of the musical.

OSU Museum of Art opens student-curated exhibition that explores culture and identity in America

A new exhibition curated by OSU graduate students opens April 26 at the OSU Museum of Art. “In Situ: Place, Meaning, and Identity in America” is inspired by the Latin term “in situ,” which refers to an object in its original place.

 

Dr. Karen Greenwalt’s ART 5813 students saw “in situ” represented in many OSU Museum of Art Permanent Collection works, leading them to choose objects for the exhibition that emphasize the interdependent relationship between place and identity.

Here are a few things from CAS that you may have missed over the past few weeks. If we forgot something, let us know!

 

Theatre alumna Amy Higdon was featured in Tribal Business News for her work to increase Native representation in the film industry through costume design.

 

Art student Shyanne Dickey was featured as a spotlight artist in the art show Momentum, which featured creators under 30.

 

Gardeners looking for herbs or succulent plants for their home landscape or a fun outdoor activity with the family should make plans to attend the annual Herb and Succulent Festival at The Botanic Garden.

The festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30 at The Botanic Garden at OSU, 3300 W. 6th St., in Stillwater.

 

For the first time in program history, the No. 1 Oklahoma State equestrian team won the overall NCEA National Championship after defeating No. 3 Texas A&M, 11-9, on Saturday in Ocala, Florida.

 

 

Faculty Scholar Spotlight: Dr. Taylor Woodall-Green, Department of Languages and Literatures

Dr. Taylor Woodall-Greene is an American Sign Language professor for the Department of Languages and Literatures. She researches sign language interpreters in diverse settings and incorporates creative methodologies and techniques for research with the D/deaf and interpreting communities. The interpreting field is experiencing a high rate of turnover. Dr. Woodall-Greene's focus for her current research is on analyzing the embodied nature of interpreting.
