OSU Homecoming 2011 Theme Announced

The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association has unveiled the theme for Homecoming 2011. This year, “America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” is ‘Where Your Story Began’.

“We chose the theme ‘Where Your Story Began’ because we knew it would touch every past, present and future Cowboy out there,” said Molly Johnson, Homecoming 2011 executive director. “The theme embodies every aspect of OSU, the campus and its traditions that we cherish.”

“The premise of Homecoming is for alumni and friends to return to where they matured and began their adult lives,” said Melisa Parkerson, director of student programs. “I believe the theme ‘Where Your Story Began’ fits that premise perfectly.”

The selection of a theme begins each year in January when the nine Homecoming executives hold a retreat to brainstorm ideas. Once a theme is selected, it is kept under wraps until the first Homecoming Steering meeting in March, which occurred Tuesday evening.

Homecoming 2011 is Oct. 21-29 in Stillwater and will conclude with the Baylor vs. OSU football game on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” has been presented each year by the OSU Alumni Association since 1920. It is run completely by more than 100 Homecoming student members with the collaboration of thousands in the Greek community and across the five OSU campuses.

Last year, more than 75,000 alumni and friends returned for Homecoming 2010: ‘Cowboy Nation’. As part of Branding Success: The Campaign for OSU, the Alumni Association is raising $7 million to endow OSU’s greatest tradition and keep it “America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration” for future generations. To date, more than 100 donors have given or pledged $818,000.
