OSU-Tulsa Commencement

TULSA – More than 500 Oklahoma State University-Tulsa undergraduate and graduate students will soon make their mark on the Tulsa-area economy. But today, OSU’s orange pride is making a mark on a historic Tulsa landmark.

Tulsa’s Golden Driller is wearing a bright, orange necktie in celebration of OSU-Tulsa’s Graduation Ceremony at the Pavilion on Monday, May 5. Chancellor Glen D. Johnson, Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, will serve as the keynote speaker for the ceremony which begins at 7 p.m.

OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl said the Golden Driller’s orange tie is a fun way to honor the graduates’ achievements at OSU and their future contributions to the city of Tulsa.

“We’re extremely proud of our 2008 OSU graduates,” Trennepohl said. “Soon they will begin assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in their careers while strengthening our community.”

The Golden Driller has long been a famous figure for Tulsa. Originally built in 1953, the statue was permanently installed in front of the Expo Center for the 1966 International Petroleum Exposition. The statue stands 76 feet tall and weighs 43,500 pounds.

The Pavilion at Expo Square is located in mid-town Tulsa at 4145 E. 21st Street. To learn more about OSU-Tulsa or the Graduation Ceremony, visit www.osu-tulsa.okstate.edu.
