As the Cowboy football season comes to a close, the Cowboy basketball season is coming into full-swing. The Cowboys are 9-1 on the season with no conference matches thus far in the season. While the team just suffered a loss to Gonzaga on Tues. night at the Touchstone Energy All-College Classic in Oklahoma City, they are ready to begin conference play on Saturday, Jan. 8, when they face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The OSU Cowboys suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. The final score was 33-7, Ohio State. This was the second time the Cowboys to traveled to San Antonio for a bowl appearance. The Cowboys put up a fight, but could not upset the Buckeyes football team. Couple Leaves $750,000 to OSU for Scholarships

The OSU Foundation announced today that OSU has received $750,000 from the estate of Loy and Marian Morris of El Reno to endow scholarships for students from that community and Canadian County. The endowment will fund approximately $30,000 worth of scholarships each year. The couple raised cattle and farmed in Geary, Oklahoma and later lived in Colorado. After her husband's death, Mrs. Morris was active in the oil and gas industry. The couple had no children, but supported helping young people pursue an education. According to the Morris' wishes, students from El Reno will have first priority for the scholarships, with students from the rest of Canadian County second, then students from the rest of Oklahoma.

The famous Eddie Sutton scowl has teamed up with Eskimo Joe and Buffy in a special edition T-shirt fund raiser, sponsored by the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer campaign. Joe's is contributing a significant percentage of the sales to the cause. Joe's owner, Stan Clark says a minimum of $25,000 will be donated to Coaches vs. Cancer from the partnership. The OSU Marching Band will be debuting their http://bands.okstate.edu/marchingband/index.htm"new uniforms" at the Cowboys’ bowl game appearance in San Antonio. The band has incorporated two different coats into the uniform, one for early, hot weather games, and one for later games. This will allow them to have a slightly different look from time to time. The goal of the band department was to capture a contemporary look without losing the Cowboy tradition. Not only will the uniforms enhance the band members’ appearance, but it will enhance the appearance of the band as a whole, because all members will now be able to perform because of the abundance of uniforms. So get ready to cheer on the Cowboy football team and check out the new OSU Marching Band!!!

This ceremony has changed from past ceremonies in the fall because it is taking place on two days, just like the May ceremony. The Graduate Ceremony will take place on Dec. 17 at 7:00 pm, and the Undergraduate Ceremony will take place Dec. 18 at 10:00 am. Former OSU Administrator Gets Big Job in Kalamazoo

Old timers at OSU may remember Dr. Tim Greene, who was associate dean for research in OSU's College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology. Green also was head of industrial engineering and management at OSU. This week, he was named dean of engineering and applied sciences at Western Michigan University. Greene leaves the University of Alabama where he has served as assistant vice president for research and academic affairs.

OSU Signs Transfer Agreements

On Monday, President Schmidly joined OSU-OKC President Jerry Carroll and Northern Oklahoma College President Joe Kinzer to sign memorandums of understanding that will allow graduates of certain technical programs at the two-year schools to seamlessly transfer to OSU-Stillwater's School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership to earn bachelor's degrees in career and technical education and to earn credentials to teach technical subjects. Certification areas will be in health occupations, technology education, marketing education, and business and information technology education.

Ground Broken for ATRC in Tulsa

OSU President David Schmidly, OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl and Tulsa area leaders broke ground Tuesday for the OSU-Tulsa Advanced Technology Research Center, a $30-million research facility that is expected to boost Tulsa's economy by creating jobs and attracting industries to the area. Funded through the Vision 2025 bond issue passed by Tulsa voters last year, the ATRC will focus on the development of next generation composites and advanced materials used by many Oklahoma industries. The ATRC will enable engineering faculty and graduate students to conduct research in the use of advanced materials for sensors, energy technologies, information technology and controls, and bio-based technologies. When completed, the ATRC will house 25 faculty, 40 graduate students and five to 10 visiting professors.

HES Researcher Develops Body Armor Systems

A researcher at OSU has developed two new body armor systems to offer soldiers more protection against injuries to their arms and legs. The two prototypes are on display for military decision makers this week at the International Soldier Systems Conference in Boston. Dr. Donna Branson, head of design, housing and merchandising, says she began developing prototypes in May with a partner company, FSTechnology, LLC., and OSU's funding partner, the Naval Research Laboratory. One prototype is designed to provide protection against ballistic damage to the arms and legs, while minimizing heat stress and weight. OSU Grad Receives Milken Educational Award

OSU graduate Malissa Barker of Jenks received the 2004 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award at a formal presentation this week. Barker teaches at Jenks West Intermediate School and has received the OSU Distinguished Alumni Award. Education pioneer Lowell Milken created the awards to celebrate some of the nation's outstanding teachers, principals and specialists. More than $50 million in foundation awards have been presented. Barker will be recognized with other national recipients in Washington in the spring. The 100 honorees will receive $25,000 checks from the foundation.

State Regents Determine Priority List for Higher Ed

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education have chosen three top priorities for the upcoming legislative session. These include passage of a $500-million capital improvements bond issue, restoring funding to former levels and finding a dedicated revenue source for the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program, which provides free college tuition to high school seniors from low- to middle-income families who meet certain academic and behavior requirements. Head of State Regents Says No Tuition Hikes Next Year

The Daily Oklahoman reports that Jimmy Harrell, chairman of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, will oppose any tuition increases this coming year. At a meeting of the regents, Harrell said some of his constituents, including his own employees, are having to delay college because of the cost and that students need a "breather." The State Regents coordinate the state system of public higher education. Other state regents say it is too early in the budget process to talk about whether tuition increases are needed.

OSU Joining OSU to Help the Hungry

Ohio State University has asked OSU (us) to participate in a joint volunteer project benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank. Forty Oklahoma State faculty, staff, students and alumni are needed to join 40 Ohio State volunteers with the project. Bus transportation will be provided between a centrally located major hotel and the food bank. The facility is just a 15-minute drive from the downtown area. Volunteers will need to be at the pick-up location at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28 and will work a three hour shift from 8 to 11 a.m., then be driven back to the hotel area.
