It’s beginning to look a lot like Bowl Time! The Oklahoma State Cowboys are anxiously awaiting a win against Texas and a chance to receive their first-ever bid to a Bowl Championship Series game. The Texas Longhorns are coming to town on Saturday and a win for the Cowboys would not only elevate their record to 8-2 for the season, but would also place them in a highly favorable position for a bowl bid. The ultimate bid for OSU would be the Tostidos Fiesta Bowl Jan. 2 in Tempe, Ariz. To accomplish this feat, the Pokes must win their final three regular-season games and receive a bid that would most likely go to a higher ranked team. With this in mind, Saturday’s game may prove to be a bowl-deciding game. Texas (7-2) is vying for the same bid with almost exactly the same plan. In addition, the Fiesta Bowl plans to send a representative to check out Saturday’s game and several other bowls are also expected to attend, including the Cotton, Holiday and Alamo. However, with dreams of a Fiesta Bowl dancing in their heads, the Cowboys will more likely find themselves on the road to Dallas to the Southwestern Bell Corporation Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, their first appearance in 58 years. If the Longhorns win on Saturday, the Cowboys still have the possibility to play in the Holiday or Alamo bowl. In either case, the Cowboys certainly have the opportunity to be bowl-bound. Fiesta, Cotton, Holiday or Alamo, Cowboy football has many reasons to celebrate. After 58 years, they are in a position to play in a January bowl game and finish 10-2 for the season, their best since 1949. They also have the opportunity to win eleven games, a first for the cowboys and we can’t forget about Woods and Bell, two players who still have the chance to receive the next Heisman.
