Dallas didn’t know what hit it this past weekend as hordes of orange-clad OSU fans arrived to cheer for the OSU Cowboys. On Friday night the Dallas chapter of the OSU Alumni Association hosted a party at Humperdinks. So many OSU fans showed up – including Dr. David Schmidley and Dr. Harry Birdwell – that the building quickly was filled beyond capacity. The owner of the restaurant donated a portion of the evenings proceeds to the Dallas Chapter. The open-air pre-game Tailgate Party hosted Saturday by the OSU Alumni Association broke all previous attendance records as more than 1500 fans showed up at the Radisson to get rowdy with the band, cheerleaders and Pistol Pete. The sea of orange flowed into the stadium to enjoy watching the Cowboys take the Mustangs by force. In Cowboy football action, Rashuan Woods played the game of a lifetime against Southern Methodist University. The Cowboys walked away with a 52-6 victory and Woods walked away with an NCAA record-setting performance. Woods finished the game with seven touchdowns, 13 receptions and 232 yards. His seven touchdown receptions set the new NCAA record. He also set OSU and Big 12 records for the most receiving yards, 232, and scores and points in a game, 42. In an interview with Tim Landes, assistant sports editor for The Daily O’Collegian, Woods expressed his thankfulness for everything he has been able to accomplish. “It’s truly a blessing,” Woods said. “I am very thankful to have this opportunity. I’m just thankful.”

Your OSU Alumni Association sponsored the first home game of the season Saturday in the newly named Boone Pickens stadium. Thanks to an explosive running game and an outstanding 215 yards on 21 carries from Tatum Bell, Oklahoma State defeated Wyoming 48-24. It was the first 200-yard rushing performance of Bell's career and he was later recognized at the SBC Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts. “(With) Tatum Bell’s 200 yards, he had a big day,” said OSU coach Les Miles. “I think the offensive line deserves a lot of credit for some of those yards. There were some big gaping holes but a lot of hard running as well.” The Cowboys will host Southwest Missouri State Saturday at 6 p.m.

Hats Off to These Cowboys
Tuesday, September 02, 2003 (101 reads)

After 13 years of service, Natalea Watkins has retired from her position as vice president for Communications Services. A ’73 graduate of OSU, Watkins helped modernize the communications efforts of the university and bring the promotional materials used into the 21st century. She was also able to use her talents in news journalism to highlight the strengths of the university as well as develop several video productions. During her time at OSU, she served four presidents and was always willing to lend her talents and her enthusiasm to the improvement and promotion of the university. Larry Kruse, a fellow cowboy, will also be moving on after serving as the director of High School and College Relations for the past 12 years. A ’96 graduate, Kruse played an instrumental role in the creation of several tuition waivers designed to assist non-residents fund their education. During his term, the university has seen a consistent increase in enrollment as well as an increase in the size of the incoming freshman classes. We thank both Watkins and Kruse for their dedication and hard work. While they may no longer work for the university, they will remain cowboys forever. Hats off to these two exceptional cowboys!
