Oklahoma State Undefeated After Season-opening Victories
Monday, August 28, 2006 (141 reads)

The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer team opened the 2006-2007 season with a pair of victories this weekend.

The Cowgirls (2-0) began the weekend Friday with a 10-0 victory over Texas State University (0-1) in San Marcos, Texas.

Senior forward Jesyca Rosholt put OSU on the board early with a goal in the game’s
second minute of play, but it was redshirt freshman Leah Hope who provided the Cowgirls with their biggest spark.

“Leah came off the bench and did a great job,” co-head coach Colin Carmichael said.

“She wanted to impress and get some more minutes and score some more goals, and if she continues that in the next couple of weeks, hopefully she’ll get her way into the lineup.’

In Friday’s game, Hope scored three goals, giving the Tulsa-native a hat trick during her first collegiate game.

“I’d have to check the record books, but I don’t think that’s ever happened before,” co-head coach Karen Hancock said.

OSU Students Produce Solar Hardware for NASA Shuttle Mission
Monday, August 28, 2006 (127 reads)

NASA will resume construction of the International Space Station with shuttle mission STS-115. The mission’s Aug. 27 launch date has been postponed, but when the Atlantis takes off, solar cells in hardware designed and manufactured by Oklahoma State University students will be on board, carried by astronaut and pilot Chris Ferguson.

During STS-115, the Atlantis crew will install a city bus-sized set of solar arrays on the space station, doubling its ability to generate power from sunlight. Ferguson conceived an educational component to the mission and turned to OSU’s Aerospace Education Services Program for assistance in its development.

From space, Ferguson will use the OSU designed array to conduct demonstrations for NASA Explorer School students throughout the nation. With arrays of their own, the students will be able to work along and, throughout the fall, conduct their own experiments.

Presidential Home now ‘Willham House’
Thursday, August 17, 2006 (166 reads)

The designation of 1600 N. Washington, the residence of Oklahoma State University presidents since 1962, as The Willham House is being commemorated with the construction of a stone marker and sign at its entranceway.

Though Dr. and Mrs. Willham never lived there, their personal contributions funded three-fourths of the cost. Last October, the OSU/A&M College Board of Regents approved naming the Stillwater home in honor of former President Oliver S. Willham and his wife, Susan.

Its current residents, David and Janet Schmidly, recommended the distinction.

“Naming the OSU presidential home for the Willhams is a fitting tribute for their legacy and contributions to OSU,” said Schmidly.  “Janet and I are privileged to live in such a unique and wonderful home. We are thrilled that it now honors the Willhams.”
