Construction of Phase I of the proposed $86 million upgrade to OSU's football stadium began in July 2003 and is due to be completed in October of this year. In Phase I, the south side of the stadium will be totally renovated with bigger and better restrooms, more convenient and inviting concession areas and a new upper concourse with all-new facilities for fans. The existing pressbox will be replaced by a modern facility that includes a new Club Level, Luxury Suites and plenty of space for working media. To see the latest construction on Boone Pickens Stadium, check out these links: http://www.pp.okstate.edu/projects/boone%20pickens/phase%20I/"OSU Physical Plant Construction Updates" http://www.osustadiumpics.com/"Stadium Pics" Far more than a mere facelift, the changes to the football stadium will include an attractive brick exterior to match the modified Georgian architecture of the OSU campus. The changes will be implemented in three phases. When connected to the Athletics Center, the stadium will create a one-of-a-kind, fan-friendly sports complex that is unique in all of collegiate athletics. With attractive architectural elements and landscaping, the bowled-in stadium will offer aesthetic beauty outside and keep crowd noise inside - boosting OSU's home-field advantage. While seating capacity is currently 47,500, the capacity of the revamped stadium will be 53,000, which can be later increased to 73,000.

One hundred nineteen eager grandparents and children attended Grandparent University 2004 – the second edition – from June 23-25. They “majored” in such diverse areas as broadcasting, aviation, architecture, food and family, and website creation during the two day course. Some attendees arrived early and were treated to an ice cream social featuring homemade ice cream sundaes made to their specifications. They celebrated with Pistol Pete at their “tailgate” party in Gallagher-Iba Arena, some even obtaining his much coveted autograph. To better experience life at OSU, the attendees stayed in Allan Hall, one of the new “suite” style residence halls, and ate at The Market, the latest in residence hall eateries. New horizons were crossed as participants stretched their comfort zones. Aviation students actually went up in University owned single engine planes. Broadcasting students not only interviewed their grandparents on camera, they ran cameras, edited tape, and manned the sound board. Food and Family students explored family dynamics by using scripted interactions to discover interests and worked with a certified chef who imparted cooking techniques and culinary history before helping them prepare – and eat – a seven-course traditional Italian meal. Website students dived into creating HTML code and developed a one-page website that was posted to the internet. An unexpected benefit for the Legacies and grandparents was the community spirit of togetherness that was generated as participants shared stories and experiences. By the end of Grandparent University, many participants were planning to meet again next year – same place, same time.
