New Regents Professors Appointed at OSU

Two Oklahoma State University faculty members have been appointed Regents Professors by the Oklahoma State University A&M Board of Regents, effective July 1.
   
Dr. Girish Agarwal, Noble Foundation Chair and professor of physics, and Dr. Hailin Qu, professor and William E. Davis Distinguished Chair in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, received this honor.

Alum Elected Speaker-Designate

Congratulations to State Rep. Lance Cargill, R-Harrah, who has been elected speaker-designate, which means he will takeover as leader of the legislative body in January 2007. 
 
Cargill earned an economics degree from OSU and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. At the age of 34, he will be one of the youngest speakers ever in the Oklahoma Legislature and the first speaker from Oklahoma County in more than 40 years.
 
He and his wife Amber have two boys, Jackson, 4 and Henry, 2.

OSU gives unique breed a better chance for survival

OSU veterinarians have given a herd of endangered donkeys a better chance for survival.
 
After treatment for an infection, they’ve returned a breeding jack from an endangered Poitou donkey herd to his owners in Kansas. The Poitou donkey is the largest, hairiest and most endangered breed of donkey in the world. 
 
In 1977, only 44 animals existed worldwide.  A few dedicated breeders have worked to save the breed.  For more information, contact Derinda Lowe at (405) 744-6740.

Robinson Earns Byron Nelson Award

Congratulations to OSU’s Zack Robinson, who has been honored with the 2006 Byron Nelson Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
 
The award is given on the basis of collegiate academic career, collegiate golf career, character and integrity to a graduating senior. Particular consideration is given to a nominee's good citizenship, as portrayed by Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.
 
Robinson has already earned his undergraduate degree in political science and is currently pursuing a masters in business administration.

OSU Alum on 'Treasure Hunters'

Oklahoma State University alumnus Keith Brown made his debut on network television on Sunday (June 18) on NBC’s new reality series, “Treasure Hunters.”
 
Keith, originally from Midland, Texas, went to Oklahoma State University on an athletic scholarship while majoring in management science and information systems. He currently lives in Corvallis, Oregon, and works in the telecommunications field.
 
Keith’s teammates on the show are his brothers Terry and Tonny. After Sunday’s initial two hour broadcast, the series will be seen regularly at 8 p.m. on Mondays. For more, click here.

Alumni Association Seeking Fiscal Affairs Program Assistant

The OSU Alumni Association is seeking an individual to provide administrative services to the Director of Fiscal Affairs and CFO.  The person in this position will provide the following services:  Record the daily activities in the accounting system including posting receipts, invoices payable, preparing checks, preparing sales invoices, preparing journal entries to record inter-company transactions, posting to membership records, and recording and retrieval of credit card transactions (not all inclusive); Assign and oversee work performed by student workers; and Assist Program Directors by retrieval of financial information regarding their programs.

Cowboy Golfers Claim 10th National Title

Congratulations to the OSU men’s golf team, coached by Mike McGraw, for winning the NCAA National Championship on Saturday with a 5 under 283 team total final round. It’s the team’s 10th National Title and first since 2000. The Cowboys were led in scoring by Jonathan Moore, who earned the individual championship at the event. Moore became the first OSU player to claim the individual medal since Charles Howell in 2000. For more, click here.
