Our Legislative connections making a difference

The OSU Alumni Association sponsors Cowboys for Higher Education, an OSU legislative advocacy group giving OSU an active voice within the Oklahoma Legislature, which makes important decisions every year concerning what resources are available to OSU.

Created in 1995, Cowboys for Higher Education members have been instrumental in OSU's success at the legislative level, including the establishment of OSU-Tulsa, increased appropriations for higher education, and approval of tuition and fee increases that provide necessary funds for the future.

How it works
Cowboys for Higher Education members help OSU build relationships at the legislative level. For example, the group organizes "Capitol Cowboys," the OSU alumni chapter for state senators and representatives, and annually recognizes all OSU alumni among the Capitol support staff.

Members meet personally with legislators, make phone calls, or write letters. They also meet together periodically to review upcoming issues in higher education. CFHE members find out which issues are important via updates by fax, email or mail about issues that affect OSU.
